Ahmad Wali Karzai, Prisedent Hamid Karzai's brother, is no more as
he is shot dead in his house today in Kandahar. Ahmad Wali was one of the most
powerful man in Southern Afghanistan. He will be remembered for his
role as a power broker and a crucial pillar in Afghan politics. He
has also been controversial and was blamed for drug smuggling and his
strong relations with CIA. He and President Karzai has rejected these
claims.

RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan reports that the younger brother of
Afghan President Hamid Karzai was assassinated today in the southern
province of Kandahar.
Officials at Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar confirmed that Ahmad Wali Karzai -- the current head of the provincial council of Kandahar -- has been officially pronounced dead.
Afghan government officials told RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan that Ahmad Wali Karzai was shot dead by gunmen who were among his own body guards.
Those officials say the deputy chief of the Kandahar Provincial Council, Amir Lalai, also was shot dead in the attack. Afghan police say the shooters fled after the killings.
